There are Russian jeeps and then there are Russian jeeps. This much I have learned. Agi’s tool of the trade is a 2002 model. No rattling seats, no benzine fumes, no backbreaking suspension. What a luxury! Agi is our driver on this Gobi trip. He is 27 and is from Ulaanbaatar. He drives for tour operators all year round. His wife studies geology and mining at the UB Institute of Science and Technology. They have one son. Chlama is our guide and cook. She is 21 and just got her Bachelor degree in linguistics at the UB University. Next week she’ll start a German course. She wants to start a family in five years. This will be her last trip for the summer.
