Operation Liberation 2000

Surely you know them, these hotel rooms cum balconies with a view of nothing. Well nothing. Let’s say with a view of a wall, some rooftops and a deep stone abyss separating two buildings. Not the kind of place to relax and enjoy, although handy enough to dry a little laundry. At least, that was my opinion at the time. With the scorching noon temperatures, not a drop of cloud tears in sight, I was not prepared for that brittle breeze, the most delicate of winds. This, alas, is how the orange Mongolia shirt was blown into the chasm and landed on the neighbours’ rooftop. This, also, is how yet another new McGyver adventure came to be.

The goal of the mission is undoubtely clear: the peaceful liberation of Mongolia’s shirt. The strategy discussion forum soon reaches a consensus: the fishing tactic, inspired by the Flemish fair booth with the rubber poultry. The disaster relief pouch provides an arsenal of knifes, needles, ropes and other DIY’s of variable benefit. We choose our weapons for the battle and out of the heydays of creative think tanking emerges the launch of the Freedom Angler 2000, an ingeniously fine example of fishing technology.

Captain McGyver leads the mission and ventures out to the edge of the dazzling depth, armed with nothing but courage and the Freedom Angler 2000. His charming assistant Joyce Dolitte anxiously holds her breath as the tension rises. Unfortunately, the experiment fails to reach its goal. Back in the laboratory, after a second round of strategy debates, they are putting in long hours for the development and perfection of the Sticky Bottle Bomb 2000, the finest hi-tech in the rather elite circles of glue sciences. After the meticulous repositioning of the Mongolian target to a more strategical angling position, the Freedom Angler 2000 delivers: the liberation of the Mongolian shirt is a success!

This mission accomplished, Captain McGyver and his charming assistant Joyce Dolittle head off to liberate the permafrost-endangered Bia Lao from the yaws of the cooling device. Armed with nothing but courage and the Bottle Opener 2000, they unselfishly risk their lives in yet another breathtaking adventure. What would the future of this planet look like without these humble heroes?
